FAQ’s

What about confidentiality?

Confidentiality is the cornerstone of therapy, however, as outlined in The BACP ethical framework, there are times when confidentiality may not be absolute. Such examples include if there is a risk to self or others, if there may be potential for a safeguarding risk, or if knowledge of crimes to be committed are disclosed. Ideally, these issues are discussed with you, but this may not be possible in all situations.

what is your cancellation policy?

If you wish to cancel or change an appointment, I require 48 hours notice; otherwise you will still need to pay for any sessions missed. I accept payments via bank transfer.

Regular attendance is encouraged and can be hugely beneficial to the process of therapy. Where possible, I will aim to provide you with 4 weeks notice if I have a planned break.

are you insured and DBS checked?

I have an enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service. I also have full professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

how is my personal data handled and what about GDPR?

Basic personal details and brief notes relating to your therapy sessions will be kept on file that is stored securely. This provides you with the reassurance that your information is held  confidentially and that your right to privacy is taken seriously.

I undertake annual GDPR and Information Governance training, and adhere to current data protection legislation. I am registered with The Information Commissioners Office (ICO ico.org.uk. My number is ZB736524). As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I also follow their ethical guidelines regarding cofidentiality and your privacy.

Once you have decided to begin therapy, you’ll be asked to complete a personal details form which includes your contact details, emergency contact and the details of your GP. The information I will capture between our sessions may include confirming the agreed session times and brief notes or themes from our sessions. Records will be anonymised, so your name is not mentioned and records will only be kept as long as is required for GDPR and insurance compliance. Records are beneficial if you return for further therapy.

what if I have a complaint?

If you have a complaint, please get in touch by email at christina@wavespsychotherapy.co.uk However, if you wish to make a formal complaint about how your data has been processed, you can contact the ICO via ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
